Made for Youth Ambassadors Like You

You already believe young people can change the world – that’s why you’re a HundrED Youth Ambassador. This is your chance to prove it on screen.

In 2026, HundrED and the Rubbish Film Festival are launching a pilot version of the Festival, designed especially for Youth Ambassadors, past and present.

This programme empowers you to create impactful one-minute films about sustainability, climate action and more using nothing more than the mobile device you already have in your pocket.

Since it began in Ireland in 2016, the Rubbish Film Festival has spread across the country, and last year, a pilot programme was launched on the other side of the world – in Queensland, Australia.

Now, in partnership with the HundrED Youth Ambassadors Programme, the Rubbish Film Festival has gone truly international – so you won’t just be taking part, you’ll be helping shape what it becomes for young people everywhere.

What You'll Actually Make

Working in a small team, you’ll create a one-minute film using one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals as the theme. Two of the most common SDGs used in the past have been SDGs 12 & 13, however you are not limited to those two alone.

Whatever you decide to focus on in your film, the angle is yours. One minute sounds short – that’s the point. You’ll learn how to take a huge idea and make it land fast, clearly, and powerfully, which is exactly how the best filmmakers, campaigners and creators work.

Along the way, you’ll:

  • Pick one or more SDG-related topic you care about, and research it
  • Write and storyboard your idea and approach
  • Film it on your smartphone or tablet (that’s all you need!)
  • Edit what you filmed into a finished one-minute film
  • Share it as part of an international showcase
